JamCoders is a summer camp on algorithms and programming for high school students which will launch Kingston, Jamaica on the UWI Mona campus in Summer 2022. The syllabus will be heavily influenced by that of AddisCoder. The 2022 program dates are July 4 to 29.
JamCoders 2022 will run July 4 — 29 in Kingston, Jamaica, with activities for teaching assistants starting a week earlier.
If you are currently a student in a Jamaican high school between 3rd and 5th form (9th through 11th grade) and would like to apply to JamCoders 2022, please apply here. JamCoders provides free dormitory rooms and meals for all student participants, and we welcome applications from all over Jamaica.
We are looking for students who have excelled academically in their schools, especially in mathematics and related subjects; no programming experience is required to apply.
Student application deadline: We will begin reviewing applications shortly after the application deadline. While we may still admit students who apply afterward, we strongly encourage you to apply by
April 30 May 14 May 21, 2022. Completing the application will require:
If your school or teacher prefers to submit transcripts/report cards or recommendation letters directly to JamCoders staff instead of giving them to you, please submit your application and have your school/teacher email the documents to email@example.com.
*As UWI Mona currently mandates vaccination for all students living on campus, vaccination is currently mandatory for participation in JamCoders 2022, both for students and for teaching staff. This requirement may be updated based on university policy updates. We encourage interested unvaccinated students to also apply.
Please click here to apply to be a teaching assistant. Positions are limited and will be filled on a rolling basis, so we encourage you to apply early (ideally by March 31st). JamCoders provides flights (if not living in Jamaica) and housing for all teaching assistants. TAs should have some comfort with introductory algorithms and basic programming in Python.
We encourage TA applications from all nationalities and age groups, and from diverse backgrounds. Previous TAs for the similar AddisCoder program have ranged from graduating high school seniors with algorithms experience, to current PhD students, to senior software engineers in industry. We also strongly encourage applications from women and other groups underrepresented in computer science.

The idea to start JamCoders was initially conceived by Jamar McNaughton (Chronixx) and the Chronixx team after reading about the AddisCoder program in Ethiopia, and he then made a generous founding donation to support creation of the program. We thank Chronixx for his vision and generosity. We would also like to acknowledge support from:
